Dear Mr. Freeman and Freeman Foundation,
Mahalo nui loa for providing Shidler students like me the opportunity to study abroad in Asia. Being able to study at the University of Hong Kong for a semester is a dream that I never thought I would get to see become a reality. My grandfather grew up in Hong Kong; he was so excited to hear that I would be living there for a semester. He can't wait to take me around, and I can't wait to learn more about the place he used to call home. Studying abroad is a once in a lifetime opportunity for students like me, and I'm so grateful to the Freeman Foundation for making this a possibility. While this is my first year in Shidler, I can already see how connected Shidler is with the international business community. As a Human Resource Management major, a large part of what I learn is about communicating and working with diverse populations. Being able to go abroad and experience this firsthand will strengthen my skills in these areas, especially since Hong Kong is an international business center. Growing up in Hawaii, I rarely met people from different states, much less different countries. Getting to build relationships with students from Hong Kong and other nations will not only help me grow my skills as a business professional, but will also help me to grow as a person. I would not be able to do this without the support from the Freeman Foundation and Shidler. It is with a heart full of aloha that I give my thanks to Mr. Freeman for everything he has done for Shidler and myself. Best Wishes, Emily Ball
